According to Isobel according the her family bible, Alexander's father, also Alexander was killed on 24 August 1873 but this is not mentioned on his son's birth cert. My own assumption is that if this is correct and the father was killed, then he died a month before his son was born.

NOTE FROM KAROL GILLIGAND BY EMAIL
Dorall Morgan married Jean Allieson on 19 June 1812 in the Parish of Kilwinning, to which they both belonged. They had three children in Kilwinning - Margaret in 1813 (married John Ferguson), Ruth in 1815 (married Charles Skeoch) and John in 1817 (married Mary Wyllie who was also widowed by 1841). A son James followed circa 1823. Four more children were then born in Stewarton - Agnes 1825, Elizabeth 1827 (married Hugh Delaney), Ann 1831 and Jean 1833 (married William Skimming and then Cuthbert Ferguson).
In 1841 Jean is a widow living at Dean Street in Stewarton, she is a sewer. Later she is in Cocklebie Rigg/Rigg Street working as a pirn winder and seamstress. There is a possible entry for the burial of Donald Morgan, at Stewarton on 27 August 1840.
Jean died on 26 April 1869 at Avenue Street, Stewarton. Jean had gastric problems and dropsy. Her death certificate tells us that Donal was a hand loom weaver.
